The joyous holy-filled day is around the corner.
The annually celebrated festival, Thaipusam will be taking place on 5th February this year. I’m certain that by now every house will be filled with Thaipusam elements like preparing colourful Kavadis, fitting yellow traditional attires and so on.
To boost up the feel of this holy day, Astro will be bestowing their customers with a local Tamil documentary, Thaipusa Yaathirai from 20 January at 7pm on Astro Vaanavil (Ch 201) via TV, Astro GO and On Demand.
Helmed by Maran Perianen, the documentary series revolves around a family, a ‘Kaavadi’ maker, and an actress who embarks on a remarkable spiritual journey to understand their devotion towards Lord Muruga.
‘Kanthan Saranam’, the first episode, is about enthusiastic parents who educate their son on the science behind celebrating Thaipusam and the significance of vows and penance as a part of the spiritual journey.
Meanwhile, ‘Kaavadiyam Kaavadi’, the second episode features a real-life ‘Kaavadi’ maker who shares insights on the philosophies behind penance and ways to carry ‘Kaavadi’ during Thaipusam.
The final episode, ‘Kantha Vel’, stars popular actress, Pashini Sivakumar who, herself, is intrigued by ‘Puranas’, stories of ancient Indian literature, depicting the roots of Thaipusam.
Every new episode of Thaipusa Yaathirai will premiere at 7pm, every Friday on Astro Vaanavil (Ch 201).
Have a blessed, blissful & safe Thaipusam
