As stated by Saraswathy Kandasami, the Deputy Minister of National Unity of Malaysia, a sum of RM 10, 000 will be donated to the Wilayah State Silambam Association. The Deputy Minister had officiated the Female Silambam Competition at the Kuala Lumpur PPR Sri Aman Hall.
The deputy minister also stated that it was crucial that women also take part in this martial art, further expressing that women should make their own name in this ancient Tamil martial art. Now that Silambam is also a category in SUKMA, Saraswathy urged that girls should also take advantage of this opportunity.
This competition has been organised under the leadership of Selangor State Silambam Association Chairperson Dato’ Uthayakumar and A Vishwalingam. This wonderful event had seen the eager and exciting participation of 120 female Silambam athletes, giving hope that the new generation of Tamil youths will further protect and nurture their cultural roots through this ancient martial art.
