The Association of Science, Technology, and Innovation (ASTI) comprises educators, scientists, industry representatives, and individuals dedicated to advancing the scientific community’s role in inspiring the nation’s youth to embrace and excel in the field of science. The association is driven by the goal of revolutionizing the teaching, understanding, and awareness of the critical role that science, technology, and innovation play in meeting the economic, health, and environmental needs of the global population. In pursuit of this mission, the Science Fair for Young Children program was inaugurated in 2007, emerging as a pivotal event within the Association of Science, Technology & Innovation. This competition, conducted at the school, state, and national levels, specifically targets Tamil school students.

This science fair serves as ideal platforms for students to delve deeper into scientific concepts, employing rigorous scientific methods to comprehend controls and variables. Simultaneously, these events foster an open and creative problem-solving approach, honing students’ writing skills and their ability to collaborate within a team while planning and executing tasks. The invaluable opportunity to present projects to schoolmates and judges not only sharpens public speaking skills but also allows students to compete and be recognized for their academic achievements. Over 60,000 Tamil school students enthusiastically participate in the competition, which is structured to foster learning and the development of scientific skills with passion and enthusiasm.

The 18th edition of the Science Fair for Young Children marked its commencement with a grand official launching ceremony held at the AC Mariott Hotel in Kuala Lumpur on February 23, 2024. The distinguished presence of the Honourable Minister, Saraswathy Kandasami, Deputy Minister of National Unity of Malaysia, added grace to the event as she officiated the launch of the Science Fair for Young Children 2024.

Similar to previous years, this competition is set to occur in three levels: School Level Science Fair (SLSF), Zone Level Science Fair (ZLSF), and National Level Science Fair (NSFYC). Schools intending to participate in the School Level Science Fair are required to submit their registration forms through a designated Google Form. Subsequently, the necessary documents for participation can be downloaded from the official website. Upon the conclusion of the School Level Science Fair, schools must upload their reports once again via the Google Form.

All students taking part in the competition will be awarded certificates of participation along with medals to recognize their efforts. The upcoming School Level Science Fair is scheduled to commence in April of this year. This ensures that each student receives acknowledgment for their involvement and encourages them to actively engage in the scientific exploration and learning opportunities provided by the event.

This year’s Zone Level Science Fair will feature a hands-on approach, focusing on practical experiments. Participating students are required to conduct two experiments and provide answers to questions outlined in the provided question paper. Evaluation will be based on the students’ performance in executing the experiments and addressing the related queries. Following this stage, 70 schools will qualify to advance to the National level Science Fair. The Zone Level Science Fair is scheduled to take place in June, offering students a dynamic platform to demonstrate their scientific skills and knowledge.

Participation in the event requires students to construct a model representing their experiments in accordance with the scientific method. Prior to the competition, schools are obligated to submit the conclusive experiment report to the ASTI management. During the final competition, participants are tasked with presenting their experiments in front of a panel of judges and the general public.

All Tamil school students are strongly encouraged to participate in the Science Fair for Young Children 2024. For additional information, please visit ASTI’s Facebook page or official website.

ASTI envisions an expanded commitment to empowering Tamil school students by providing them with valuable exposure to career training initiatives. The organization is strategically planning to furnish students with insights into various career options and equip them with the necessary skill sets to navigate the professional landscape successfully.

ASTI recognizes the significance of not only nurturing academic excellence but also preparing students for the practical aspects of their future careers. Through targeted career training programs, the organization aims to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and real-world application. This forward-looking approach aligns with ASTI’s overarching goal of ensuring holistic development among Tamil school students, encompassing both academic proficiency and practical skills that are vital for success in their chosen careers.
