Karthik Shamalan was unable to attend the biggest night in the Malaysian Indian film fraternity, MICA Awards 2019, but we definitely felt his presence there.
The filmmaker won ‘Best Director’ for his work in 2018 thriller, En Veetu Thottathil (The Farm). He was nominated alongside C Kumaresan for ‘Mayangathey’, Dr Vimala Perumal for ‘Vedigundu Pasanga’ and Puvendran for ‘Aasaan’.
Karthik Shamalan celebrated his win on social media with a message for upcoming Malaysian filmmakers. He wrote, “Promise I didn’t expect this at all! I’m not sure if I’m really eligible for this award. But, this has added more responsibility for me and I promise I will do better. En Veetu Tootathil (EVT)is close to my heart and we, the team, know how much time we took for the screenplay. One thing for sure, please do ORIGINAL FILMS!!! Make your award worth it. I WILL WORK HARDER , GREATER ! Will make sure it is your money’s worth!! Adai Mazhai Kaalam (AMK) and En Veetu Tootathil 2 (EVT 2) soon!”
Karthik Shamalan is currently working on Adai Mazhai Kaalam & En Veetu Tootathil 2.
