Koghulan Thanabalan, who represents SMK ACS Ipoh, stands proudly with his 13 companions, reflecting on their journey from primary school to this great feat. “Me and my friends feel incredibly happy and proud of our achievements,” he says. “After 11 years of friendship, we have finally achieved something significant in our lives, and it’s just the beginning for us.”
Their success story is not only about individual achievements, but also about shattering records and setting new benchmarks. Out of the 14 students, 12 are of Indian heritage, with the remaining two Chinese. Their success is a historic milestone for SMK ACS Ipoh, as they are the first cohort to receive all A’s under the new (KSSM) Kurikulum Standard Sekolah Menengah (KSSM) syllabus, breaking the previous record set by the (KBSM) Kurikulum Bersepadu Sekolah Menengah syllabus.
The path to success began even before the SPM exams, during their primary school years. “Some of us have known each other since kindergarten,” Koghulan recalls. “We joined SMK ACS Ipoh together, forming a tight-knit group that has been inseparable ever since.”
Their scholastic experience was filled with moments of joy and friendship, but when they entered Form 4, they realized the gravity of the SPM exams. Determined to succeed, they embraced teamwork and collaboration, realizing that their combined efforts would result in greater achievement.
“Long-term friendship played an important role in our success,” Koghulan says. “We supported each other equally, regardless of ego or competition. Our friendship was our most valuable asset.
As the SPM exams approached, they used every available time to prepare. “We studied together, revised together, and helped each other understand difficult topics,” adds Koghulan. “Our teachers provided unwavering support, guiding us every step of the way.”
Their study methods were meticulous and successful, prioritizing comprehension over memorization. They used previous year’s question books, did group revisions, and shared study advice via a dedicated WhatsApp group. Their teachers went above and beyond, giving more materials and holding courses even on holidays.
Aside from academics, their participation in extracurricular activities, such as the Malaysian Book of Records project, promoted teamwork and friendship. “Participating in such activities strengthened our bonds and taught us the value of collaboration,” Koghulan says.
Looking ahead, Koghulan and his friends are resolved to stay connected and support one another’s ambitions. “Our friendship is our greatest treasure,” he declares. “We hope to pursue higher studies together and face the challenges of the future as a team.”
Their incredible achievement inspires kids all throughout the world, demonstrating the transformative power of friendship, dedication, and solidarity. As they celebrate their accomplishment, Koghulan and his pals give a simple but deep piece of advice: “Have a vision, work as a team, and never underestimate the power of friendship.” Together, we can accomplish anything.”
Wishing you all the best as you pursue your dreams and make a positive impact on the world. Congratulations on your remarkable accomplishment!
