Singaporean YouTuber and comedian Preeti Nair, better known as Preetipls has successfully raised funds for the many migrant workers in her country affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
Through her crowdfunding campaign, Preetipls x UTOPIA for Migrant Workers NGO’s, she aimed to raise $100,000 for two existing non governmental organisations, HealthServe and TWC2, whose services are essential to meeting the urgent needs of the migrant community during this pandemic.
Preeti’s campaign reached her initial target within 24 hours, and it went on to raise more than $200,000 in just a few days.
Under the control order measures that came into play on Tuesday in the island nation, migrant workers not staying in dormitories designated as isolation areas are allowed to leave their places of residence to purchase essentials.
However, without clear directives, some of these workers are worried about leaving their premises, while others have been told by their employers to stay inside. News reports stating that foreign workers are prohibited from leaving their dormitories have further drummed up the unease among the workers.
NGOs have come forward to help the migrant workers in Singapore, providing them with essentials such as eggs, toilet paper, soap, hand sanitisers, rice, oil and face masks.
Well done, Preeti!
