An interesting mix of Tamil films will be hitting the screens this weekend. The films of South Indian dance icon Prabhu Deva, Bollywood starlet Kangana Ranaut and Tamil funnyman Santhanam will release on the 25th of January.

Popular dancer turned actor turned director Prabhu Deva has a new film coming out this weekend, and it is yet another sequel, Charlie Chaplin 2.

Directed by Shakthi Chidambaram, Charlie Chaplin 2 also stars Nikki Galrani, Prabhu Ganesan, Adah Sharma, Chandhana Raj, Samir Kochhar and Amit Bhargav. The film is set to be a full on comedic entertainer.

The soundtrack  for Charlie Chaplin 2 was composed by Amresh Ganesh. The song Chinna Machan from this film is already a hit, thanks to singers Senthil and Rajalakshmi, the winners of reality TV show, Super Singer. Interestingly, Prabhu Deva debuted as a lyricist with this movie, for the song Ivala Romba.

A quick check on Cinema Online reveals that there are two other Tamil films releasing on the same date. Santhanam’s Dhilluku Dhuddu 2 makes its appearance this weekend, alongside Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi.

Santhanam seems to have shed his sidekick/comedian persona, and has begun to romance lead actresses on screen with his new crew cut hairdo and designer beard. His Dhilluku Dhuddu 2 is a horror comedy directed by Rambala. The film is also a sequel to Dhilluku Dhuddu which was released in 2016. Santhanam, Deepti and Shritha Sivadas will star in this film. Expectations for the film aren’t high.

Manikarnika: The Queen Of Jhansi, however, might be the one to watch out for. While this is a Hindi movie dubbed in Tamil, there has been plenty of hype surrounding this biographical period drama. Directed by Ranaut herself, alongside Krish, this film is based on the life of Rani Laxmi Bai of Jhansi and her war against the British East India Company, during the Indian Rebellion of 1857.

Atul Kulkarni, Jisshu Sengupta, Richard Keep, Suresh Oberoi and Danny Denzongpa will star alongside Ranaut. The music for the film was composed by famed trio Shankar Ehsaan Loy.
