Zubir Khan, a renowned Malaysian artist, has been honoured with the National Press Club Malaysia-Macrokiosk ‘Muhibbah’ Award. He received this accolade for his viral hit ‘Yennode Macha’, a song that brought Malaysians of all races together, creating a unifying vibe across the country.
Zubir, whose full name is Muhammad Zubir Mohamad Ali and who is 24 years old, has been selected to receive the award in recognition of the spirit of unity expressed in his Tamil songs, which have resonated with Malaysians of all races and backgrounds.
The award was presented to Zubir by National Press Club executive committee member Abdul Rahmat Omar Mohammed Hanif. At 24 years old, he was awarded RM2,000 and a certificate. Zubir expressed his surprise, mentioning that he never expected to win for something he deeply enjoys doing.
Zubir Khan, who grew up in an estate, learned Tamil from his surroundings. He has produced several Tamil songs, including ‘Thevathai’, ‘Marainthe Uyire’, and many more. However, it was his track ‘Yennode Macha’ that marked a turning point in his career, elevating him to new heights. Today, Zubir Khan is a household name. ‘Yennode Macha’ was both sung and written by Zubir, while the music was composed by Music Kitchen.
He expressed his surprise at the overwhelming success of ‘Yennode Macha’.
“I never expected that ‘Yennode Macha’ would change my life. In the past, my earlier songs were mostly supported by the Indian community. But after ‘Yennode Macha’, I’ve received immense support from Malays and Chinese as well. It’s truly special to have Malays and Chinese showing so much love for a Tamil song. This is the first award I’ve received for the song, and I am incredibly grateful for it,” said Zubir Khan.
Despite losing part of his right hand at the age of 4, Zubir Khan remained resilient, putting in continuous effort and breaking through all barriers posed by his disability. Today, he stands proud of his achievements.
Speaking to RTM, he said, “Never think you can’t achieve your goals or give up easily. Keep pushing forward. The first step is always the hardest, and success doesn’t come easily. But with continuous effort, we will succeed one day. I struggled for six years, and now I’m here. So, we can all do it—just believe in yourself.”
The National Press Club, in collaboration with enterprise solutions platform provider Macrokiosk, introduced the Muhibbah Awards last year to honor individuals, groups, or organizations that embody the true spirit of unity and harmony in Malaysia.
Datuk Kenny Goh, co-founder and CEO of Macrokiosk, remarked that Zubir’s enthusiasm for learning a new language and his commitment to producing songs that resonate with Malaysians exemplify the essence of muhibbah.
Zubir Khan is also scheduled to release a special Deepavali music video titled Deepavali Sudah Mari on October 26th. We extend our best wishes to Zubir for this upcoming project and his future endeavors.
Zubir Khan’s remarkable journey, highlighted by receiving the National Press Club Malaysia-Macrokiosk ‘Muhibbah’ Award, showcases the power of resilience and dedication. This accolade not only acknowledges his talent but also emphasizes his ability to unite Malaysians through his music, reflecting the true spirit of muhibbah and cultural harmony. With his passion and talent, there is no doubt that Zubir will inspire many more with his future endeavors.
