FINAS (National Film Development Corporation Malaysia) returns with the 33rd edition of the Malaysian Film Festival, celebrating the best of the nation’s cinematic achievements. The Malaysian Film Festival (FFM) is a prestigious national-level event organized by the government to honor and celebrate excellence in the country’s film industry. First launched in 1980, the festival has continued its legacy, with the 33rd edition taking place in 2024.
FFM33 received a total of 104 submissions, with 95 entries qualifying for competition. These include 64 feature films, 20 short films, and 11 documentaries. Among them, our very own Malaysian Tamil film, ‘Naam Katra Isai,’ directed by Saresh D7, has been shortlisted in two categories.
‘Naam Katra Isai’ has emerged as one of the finest films in Malaysian Tamil cinema, delivering a powerful message. The film delves into the challenges and triumphs faced by talented musicians, weaving a compelling narrative that highlights their struggles and resilience. It captures the determination of individuals as they navigate obstacles within the industry to carve their own paths.
‘Naam Katra Isai’ has been shortlisted for Best Musical Score for Boy Radge and Best Theme Music for Boy Radge, with Saresh D7 as the lyricist. Every song and piece of background music in the film is exceptional, with the music itself conveying emotions that deeply resonate with the audience. Notably, Naam Katra Isai marks Saresh D7’s debut as a theatrical filmmaker, and the film has garnered attention on both national and global stages. It has received numerous accolades, including awards from the MICA Awards, Norway Tamil Film Festival, and Edison Awards, among others.
Saresh D7 has carved his mark with his very first theatrical film, showcasing his immense talent and capability.
Not only Naam Katra Isai, but another Malaysian Tamil film, ‘Agrinai,’ has also been shortlisted in the Best Child Artist category for Joanne Marissa. Directed by Thanesh Perrabu, ‘Agrinai’ is a horror-thriller film that stars Aghondren, Viknes Perrabu, Umagandhan, and many others.
In conjunction with the 33rd Film Festival, there will be a special screening of Malaysian films from November 30, 2024, to December 6, 2024. Admission is free. ‘Naam Katra Isai’ will also be screened, so don’t miss the chance to experience these films on the big screen once again. Check the post below for more details about the screening.
