The long awaited KL Karak Highway (KLK) widening project is set to begin at the end of the month, with the expectations of competition in 2029. The project aims to address traffic congestion and improve road safety along the frequently used route between Gombak and Bentong Pahang.

State Infrastructure and Agriculture Exco, Dato Izham Hashim, announced that the 45.3 kilometer expansion would add one lane in each direction, starting from Gombak Toll Plaza. He also ensured that the project has received approval from the federal government, with prior work already started last month.

He also clarified that the expansion would be carried out within the existing highway corridor ensuring no additional land acquisitions are needed. And that the highway reserve in Selangor is partially owned by the Federal Land Commissioner (PTP) and the Selangor State Forestry Department (JPNS).

To facilitate the project, the KLK company, AFA Prime berhad, is working with government agencies to assess the presence of squatter settlements near the highway. A demographic of the affected areas is being conducted to determine the necessary steps in compliance with regulations.

The KL Karak Highway is a crucial highway for commuters especially during peak travel periods such as festive season. Selangor Menteri Besar, Dato Seri Amirudin Shari, had previously stressed the need for this expansion, highlighting the importance in ensuring smoother travel for both daily users and long distance travelers.

Once completed, the KL Karak Highway widening project is expected to significantly improve the road conditions and improve travel times. With the project officially set to begin in the end of February, road users can look forward to a more efficient and comfortable journey in the years to come.
