In a heartfelt take on the evolving dynamics of married life, Astro is set to premiere its latest Tamil series ‘House Kanavan’ on 26th May at 9pm on Astro Vinmeen (Ch 202). The 28-episode family drama promises a compelling portrayal of gender roles, tradition, and modernity within marriage, told through relatable characters and thought-provoking storytelling.
‘House Kanavan’ centres on Amudha, a determined woman with dreams of building a career. However, her ambitious are constantly tested by her conservative mother-in-law, Arasi, and her husband, Shivs, who struggles to find his voice between being a dutiful son and a supportive husband. The tension heightens when a progressive couple, Anjali and Vishnu, move in next door, bringing with them a new perspective on partnership and shared responsibility in married life.
Vishnu, a househusband by choice, becomes a catalyst for change, admired by Amudha for his empathy, quiet strength, and care for Anjali’s ailing mother. His example challenges traditional norms and encourages Amudha to question the imbalance in her own marriage. But her attempts to shift the dynamic spark deeper conflict in the household.
Will Amudha defy social and familial norms in order to fulfill her dream of being financially independent by having a career? In the middle of the chaos, conflicts, and manipulations, will she be able to transform Shiva into a more responsible person at home while being her pillar of support?
Directed and produced by award-winning filmmaker Shalini Balasundaram, House Kanavan features a stellar local cast, including C.Kumaresan, Krithigah Kayal, Sasikumar, Nithya Shree, Kogila, Pavyderajs, Kuben, and Kabil. The series tackles complex themes with empathy, blending emotional depth with moments of warmth and humour.
