The Sri Maha Mariamman Temple in Kota Bahru Estate has been operating for over 120 years. In March of this year, Gopeng BHD granted permission for the construction of a new temple on a 1.5-acre plot of land. According to Subramaniam Sivaraman, the village head of Kampung Tersusun and a member of the temple’s management committee, arrangements are currently being made to purchase the land for RM200,000. The temple’s consecration ceremony (Kumbabishegam) is expected to take place in 2027.

The land issue, which has persisted since 2010, has now been resolved with a positive outcome. The temple committee requested approval to obtain the 1.5 acres for the temple, and after facing numerous challenges, their request has finally been approved, marking a joyful moment for the community. On behalf of the temple management, Subramaniam expressed gratitude to both former and current government officials as well as all individuals involved in making this plan possible.

Renovation and construction work will begin next year, following the temple’s annual festival. To support the renovation project, contributions from both government and private sources will be sought. The temple committee also plans to meet soon with Perak State Executive Council member A. Sivanesan to update him on the temple’s progress.

Subramaniam also recalled that in 1997, villagers of Kampung Tersusun received land titles. Many estate workers from the Kota Bahru Estate settled in this village, and he expressed happiness that their living conditions now resemble those of a thriving rural community.

Since 1997, in conjunction with Deepavali celebrations, approximately 200 families in the area have been receiving festive aid—such as groceries, sweets, cash contributions, and certificates—as part of the temple’s community outreach efforts.
