The Ministry of Education has introduced a new preschool curriculum structured around six core learning areas, aimed at supporting holistic and skills-based development among young children. Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek said the updated curriculum is designed to nurture balanced learners by strengthening emotional, physical, cognitive, and social foundations from an early age.
The six core learning areas are:
Socio-Emotional Development
This area focuses on nurturing children’s ability to recognise and manage their emotions, build positive relationships, and interact healthily with their surroundings.
Physical Development and Personal Wellbeing
Children will be guided on health awareness, including the importance of a balanced diet, personal hygiene, and safety, to promote overall wellbeing.

Language and Literacy
The curriculum aims to strengthen communication skills and encourage early literacy, helping children express themselves confidently and effectively.
Spirituality, Values and Citizenship
This domain includes Islamic education for basic religious knowledge, moral education to instil core values and positive behaviour, and citizenship education to foster awareness of rights and responsibilities.
Creativity and Aesthetics
Children are encouraged to develop imagination and creativity through visual arts, music, movement, and other expressive activities.
Cognitive Development
This area promotes curiosity, exploration, and critical thinking, helping children build problem-solving skills and a love for learning.
Fadhlina expressed hope that the new preschool curriculum will be implemented effectively nationwide, laying a strong foundation to raise well-rounded, competitive learners from a young age.
