An 11-year-old girl from India has made headlines in the chess world by winning the FIDE World Rapid Under-12 Girls’ Championship. A.S. Sharvaanica proudly represented her country in this competition and secured the championship title. The event took place last Friday in Vrnjačka Banja, Serbia, where she clinched the title with two rounds to spare.
In the 11-round tournament, Sharvaanica recorded 10 wins and a single draw against Ukraine’s Daria Kravchuk. She sealed her victory by defeating the higher-rated Slovenia player Ema Jaksa in the ninth round. Sharvaanica finished the tournament with an impressive total of 10.5 points, three points ahead of WCM Sholpanbek Zhansaya, who ended with 7.5 points.

Entering the tournament as one of the top seeds with a classical rating of 2041, Sharvaanica began her campaign with a victory over Alisa Yunker in Round 3. She went on to achieve three consecutive wins before being held to a draw in Round 7 on Thursday. On the second day, she resumed competition with a win over Mariya Shakhova and maintained her momentum to secure the title.
Hailing from the small town of Udayarpalayam in Alayar, Sharvaanica’s triumph marks her second World Rapid title. She previously won gold in the Under-10 category at the age of nine and also achieved a silver medal in the blitz event at the FIDE World Rapid and Blitz Championship in Albania in 2024.
This young girl from a small town has proven to the world that dedication and determination can lead to success. Sharvaanica’s victory is not only a moment of pride but also serves as an inspiration for the younger generation.
