Malaysia and Tamil Nadu is looking to strengthen cooperation in archives, hostry and heritage documentation through knowledge sharing and cultural exchange.
Deputy National Unity Minister YB Yuneswaran Ramaraj has said his visit to Tamil Nadu Archives and Historical Research in Egmore, Chennai, has a potential for a collaboration.
According to him, the visit gained his knowledge on the important role archives play in preserving a nation’s history, culture, and collective memory.

Preserving History for Future Generations
In a post, he explained that archives is more than a place for old records. Its a place where there’s knowledge that safeguards official documents, historical records and written heritage for future generations.

Archives helps communities to understand their roots, language, traditions and cultural identity better. He noted that a cooperation between Malaysia and Tamil Nadu would create opportunities for research, documentation, and the preservation of shared historical connections. Collaboration like this would have knowledge exchange, heritage documentation projects and academic partnership that benefit both countries.

YB Yuneswaran also shared that the younger generation have to look at history not just as stories from the past but as a guidance that can help shape the future while preserving cultural values and identity.
Located in Chennai, Tamil Nadu Archives and Historical Research has many collection of historical records, government documents, manuscripts, and research materials related to Tamil Nadu and the former Madras Presidency, making it one of the most important centres of historical preservation.

The visit shows the ongoing efforts to strengthen cultural understanding and heritage preservation through international cooperation and shared learning experiences.
