Vulnerable Groups To Receive COVID-19 Booster Shots Soon

They include the medical frontliners and those above the age of 60.

Ain’t this a piece of good news for Malaysians? Not only are we now amongst the countries with the highest vaccination rate but we are slowly moving on in administering COVID-19 booster shots.

The Malaysian government has decided to implement the COVID-19 booster shots to high-risk groups once 80 percent of the country’s population has been properly immunised.

In a statement released yesterday, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob stated that high-risk individuals will be given precedence in obtaining the third dose.

Now that it’s obvious that COVID-19 – and its many variant descendants – will continue to plague the world for years to come, the next big question is, how will the third booster help them eventually?

“The third COVID-19 vaccination dose will help boost viral immunity in patients categorised in high-risk groups, which may diminish after the second vaccine shots,” said Ismail Sabri.

Healthcare frontliners, immune-compromised persons, the elderly with comorbidities, and those staying and working in long-term health care institutions are among those listed in this prioritised category, he added.

A booster shot is an additional dose of a vaccination given after the first injection(s)’ protection has begun to wane over time. The booster is intended to help people retain their immunity for a longer period of time.

Let’s wait for our Health Minister, Khairy Jamaluddin’s announcement on the aforementioned COVID-19 booster shot soon.
