Vitalla; An Evening Of Divine Music

We have some exciting news for music enthusiasts, particularly Carnatic music lovers.

Sugam Karnatica, a Malaysian arts school specialising in Indian classical music, warmly welcomes you to their enchanting evening concert, ‘Vitalla, An Evening Of Divine Music‘.

The arts education school has organised a musical fund-raiser which is expected to take place at Shantanand Auditorium in Brickfields this coming Friday, 18th February, 2022.

The ‘Vittala‘ concert is a modest endeavour by the school to gather funds in order to assure its continued existence after riding through a series of difficult waves in recent years.

Since 2019, the school, like many others in the arts and entertainment business, has been wrecked by the COVID-19 virus, which has caused widespread destruction.

The two-hour ‘Vittala’ performance will offer devotional delights and be separated into two segments: the first will comprise Carnatic works in honour of Lord Krishna, while the second will feature lighter pieces and popular melodies.

Favourites include MS Subbulakshmi’s timeless Kurai Ondrum Illai, as well as crowd-pleasers like Theeraadha Villaiyaatu Pillai, Alaipayuthe, and Enna Thavam Seithanai, will be performed.

The concert will include Sugam Karnatica’s teaching faculty, comprising Sujietra, Sumitra, and Subatra Jayaseelan on vocals, Sheshadri Sriram on the violin, Kuhan Kanesalingam on the veena, Kesavan Pallusamy Chettiar on the flute, and Darmen Krisnan and Kumaran Rajangam on the mridangam and tabla, respectively.

Sugam Karnatica

Sugam Karnatica has been in existence since 2003, and it has served around 4000 students since that day. In keeping with its objective to provide affordable and high-quality arts education to all people regardless of their financial circumstances, the organisation has been offering RM20,000 scholarships to children from low-income families every year.

Furthermore, to ensure that the Sugam student community obtains a complete arts education, Sugam Karnatica has given free creative art courses in Theatre, Visual Arts, Creative Writing, and Tamil Language since 2017, costing Sugam Karnatica between RM60,000 and RM83,600 yearly.

The school was also one of the first art schools in the nation to start offering online courses as soon as mobility restrictions were imposed in the country, ensuring that students’ education was not disrupted.

The organisation’s ability to adapt and alter its operating procedures during the pandemic was one of the many reasons they were named ‘Outstanding School in the Field of Arts and Culture’ at the World Educational Leaders Summit & Awards in 2021.
