In a historic moment, Ilavarasan Tamil Chelvan, a student at the University of Malaya‘s Department of South East Asian Studies, has been honored with the ANUGERAH PELAJARAN DIRAJA State Education Award. This accolade, reserved for individuals who demonstrate excellence not only in academics but also in extracurricular activities, service, and leadership, marks a significant milestone for Ilavarasan and the Indian student community.

Hailing from the Bukit Rokan residential area in Negeri Sembilan, Federal Land Development Board (FELDA), Ilavarasan is the proud son of supportive parents who worked as gardeners. Despite humble beginnings, they steadfastly supported his educational journey, a factor Ilavarasan acknowledges with gratitude. The recent recognition has not only brought honor to his family but has also made him the first Indian student to receive this distinguished State Education Award after 24 years.
