The Visit Malaysia Year 2026 (VMY2026) Countdown Festival held at Pavilion Kuala Lumpur last night took place in a vibrant and celebratory atmosphere, with strong participation from Malaysians, visitors and tourists who gathered to welcome the new year.

Tourism, Arts and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing expressed his appreciation to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for attending the event, saying the Prime Minister’s presence reflected the MADANI government’s continued commitment to engaging with the people while supporting the growth of the tourism, arts and creative industries. He also acknowledged the attendance of distinguished guests and foreign diplomats, describing it as a sign of international support for Malaysia’s tourism and cultural sectors.

The countdown festival featured a range of cultural performances and appearances by local artistes, showcasing Malaysia’s rich and diverse heritage alongside contemporary entertainment. According to the minister, the combination of traditional culture and modern performances highlighted the relevance of cultural identity in enhancing urban tourism experiences.

Tiong said the organisation of large-scale public events such as the VMY2026 countdown helps revitalise city spaces, boost the local economy and provide opportunities for artistes and creative industry players. He added that such initiatives play an important role in strengthening Kuala Lumpur’s image as a dynamic, inclusive and world-class city.
