Malaysian student entrepreneurs made Malaysia proud as they secure three out of top five positions at Expop Startup Challenge Grand Final, which took place in Philadelphia.
Competing with over 200 students from more than 18 schools across 5 countries, the Malaysians stood out with their creativity, innovation, and real-world business ideas.
Malaysia’s Top Young Innovators
Leading the group was 16 year old Bryan Chu Yong Xiang, who won second place and USD 2,000 with his startup named “Crave Cave”, a grab and go snacks and beverage brand.

And followed by Wong Kean Jee, who is also 16 years old, who secured third place and USD 1,500 for Deskmindr, a desk companion designed to help users manage tasks and reduce digital clutter.
17 year old Sean Puon won fourth place earning USD 1,000 for Willforge, a app used for building discipline through structured commitments and accountability.

A Platform for Real-World Learning
The Expop Startup Challenge is specially for Gen Z entrepreneurs, that guides students through a six-month journey from idea to execution. Participants are required to build real startups, from developing prototypes and websites to pitch their ideas and generate sales.
Throughout the programme, students will also gain insights from mentors and speakers from global organizations such as LinkedIn, Slack and Google, which gives them valuable insights.

“Expop is here to change the way we think about learning. It’s not a passive experience, you actually have to go out there and build. That process is where real learning happens, and it is one that has been truly transformative for so many students,” said Harsha, the Co-Founder of Expop.
Rising Generation and Space for Bigger Representation
While the achievement is a proud moment for Malaysia, it also shows the growing potential of the youths across all communities in our nation. As startup continues to expand, there is a hope to see more representation.
A Promising Future
With three Malaysians placed among world’s top five, the results shows a strong and promising future for the nation’s startup ecosystem. More importantly, it reflects a new generation that is not just learning on entrepreneurship, but actively building ideas that makes a impact in the world.
