On May 3, 2026, a tragic road accident on Jalan Ampang in Kuala Lumpur resulted in the deaths of a married couple after their motorcycle was crashed by a car. The victims, Doraisingam, 61, and Menagah, 56, were riding together, with Doraisingam on his way to drop his wife off at work. The car reportedly lost control before crashing into them. Both victims suffered severe injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene, while several occupants in the car were also injured.
Driver Taken to Hospital, Later Arrested
Following the crash, the 24-year-old driver of the car was taken to Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) for treatment due to injuries sustained in the incident. After receiving medical attention and being discharged, he was arrested by police as investigations pointed towards alcohol consumption at the time of the crash. Authorities began probing the case more seriously as evidence suggested the possibility of drink-driving.

Case Reclassified as Murder, Suspect Remanded
What initially began as a road traffic investigation soon took a serious turn when authorities reclassified the case as murder under Section 302 of the Penal Code. The suspect was subsequently remanded for seven days to assist with investigations. Police are continuing to gather evidence, including witness statements and forensic reports, as part of the ongoing probe.

Victims’ Family Seeks Justice Amid Heartbreaking Loss
The victims’ family has since spoken out, urging authorities to ensure swift and firm justice. The couple leaves behind three children, who are now mourning with the sudden loss of their parents. The couple has three children, aged from 19 to 26.
According to family members, the couple had long dreamed of owning their own home and were on the verge of moving into a new house after years of renting. The victim’s brother also voiced his grief and frustration, calling for strict action against the suspect and accountability for the loss of innocent lives.

Rising Concern Over Drink-Driving Cases
The tragedy has reignited public concern over drink-driving incidents in Malaysia. Authorities have acknowledged the seriousness of such cases, stressing that stricter enforcement and firm legal action are necessary to curb reckless behaviour on the roads. Police have reiterated that driving under the influence poses a grave danger not only to the driver but to other road users, and warned that severe penalties will continue to be imposed in cases involving loss of life.
