The Selangor Public Works Department (JKR Selangor) has identified a total of 102 schools across the state that require additional classrooms to address increasing student enrollment and overcrowding issues. With the Ministry of Education announcing that six-year-olds can enroll in Year 1 starting next year, it is expected that even more students will be enrolling.
This initiative is being carried out in collaboration with the Ministry of Education (Kementerian Pendidikan Malaysia, KPM) as part of ongoing efforts to improve school infrastructure and create a more conducive learning environment for students. Many of the affected schools are experiencing high student density, particularly during enrollment periods.

The additional classrooms will be constructed in phases, depending on the urgency and readiness of each school site. The project also involves early planning and tender processes to ensure efficient implementation without long delays.
JKR Selangor stated that this initiative is necessary to support the growing population in urban and suburban areas, where many schools are facing capacity constraints. The new classrooms are expected to help reduce overcrowding, enhance student comfort, and promote more effective teaching and learning conditions.
This initiative reflects the government’s broader commitment to strengthening education infrastructure in Selangor, ensuring that schools are better equipped to accommodate future increases in student enrollment.
