The Ministry to Education placed 8,042 new teachers in schools across Malaysia as of June 2026 to help fill teacher vacancies and meet subject needs for primary and secondary schools.
Deputy Education Minister YB Wong Kah Woh said the placements are part of the ministry’s ongoing efforts to make sure schools have enough teachers to provide quality education.
He shared that there are 422,325 teachers working nationwide, with the overall teacher placement rate at 98 per cent, in line with the allocation set by the central agency.
More Teachers to Be Posted This Year
YB Wong said the ministry will continue to strengthen the teaching workforce with more teachers expected to be posted in the coming months. A total of 5,829 graduates from the Bachelors of Teaching Programme, together with 2,633 reserve candidates, will start teaching in schools this September.
In addition, 549 graduates from the Postgraduate Diploma in Education Programme are expected to complete their studies in October and will be placed in schools in January 2027.
Measures to Address Teacher Shortages
The Education Service Commission is also having interviews for the 2026 teacher recruitment exercise, which started in May and is expected to end in October.
To improve teacher recruitment and placement, the ministry introduced a few initiatives. These includes conducting recruitment exercises twice a year and keeping applications through the MySPP portal open throughout the year.
Other measures are also expanding subject clusters to have more qualified candidates, recruiting outstanding graduates from private and overseas universities while continuing to prioritize public university graduates, and appointing teachers under the Contract of Service scheme for graduates who do no have formal teaching qualifications.
YB Wong said these efforts is to ensure schools in Malaysia have enough teachers to meet students learning needs and reduce teacher shortages.
