Sivasangari Subramaniam gave one of the strongest performance to win against world champion Amina Orfi and secured place in the PSA Tour Finals final in Paris yesterday.
Sivasangari (world No.5) had to play for 74 minutes to win against Amina Orfi with 8-11, 11-10, 11-8, 11-10. This win is a huge achievement for Sivasangari, especially after Orfi just entered the tournament after winning British Open and World Championships this season.
This was Sivasangar’s 3rd win over Orfi in their 10 career meetings and one of the most important victory of her career.
With the win, she is the second Malaysian woman to reach the finals of PSA Tour Finals after Datuk Nicol David. Nicol has previously won the 2011 and 2012 title in London, making Sivangari’s win another historic proud moment for Malaysia.
Speaking after the game, Sivasangari said she was happy with her performance with a tough opponent. She also credited her victory to stay positive throughout the match and making the right decision during tough moments. Reaching the final was meaningful after her campaign in last year’s PSA Tour Finals where she did not win a single group match.
She added that she was unhappy with her performance at the recent British Open game, where she lost in the 3rd round, but she stayed determined to finish this season strongly.
Now that Sivasangari gave a strong game and won the round, she will now face the World No.1 Hania El Hammamy from Egypt in the finals. Hania secured her place in the finals after she defeated Fayrouz Aboulkheir in the semi-finals.
With Sivasangari’s confidence growing, she will look to make another history by winning one of the biggest titles of her career.
