National high jumper Nauraj Singh Randhawa, clinched a gold medal at the CAS Meeting International, which was held at the Stade Jean-Jacoby in Schifflange, Luxembourg. According to the official website of CAS, he broke the record after a leap of 2.18 metres.
The Johor-born athlete is the first Malaysian track and field star to qualify on merit for the Games since walker Yuan Yufang, pole vaulter Roslinda Samsu and Hup Wei in 2008.

After tying the knot with a German woman, the Olympian is settled in the country alongside with his wife. The 29-year-old began practising high jumping in 2001 and won a gold medal at the Sea Games (2013) in Myanmar and 2015 in Singapore.
Besides winning a gold medal, the Olympian has a best record of 2.30 at the Singapore Open Championships (2017), flopped during his last attempt for 2.21m. Nauraj was the first athlete to secure a spot in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games on merit, and was ranked 18th in the high jump category on his maiden appearance.
