The Kedah state government has officially approved January 25th, 2024 as a special holiday to commemorate the Thaipusam celebration. Datuk Seri Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor, the Menteri Besar of Kedah, made the announcement following the decision reached in yesterday’s state executive council meeting. Thaipusam, an annual festival dedicated to Lord Muruga, is scheduled to be celebrated on January 25th this year.

“Last year, we granted the holiday, and this year, we’ve done the same, announcing it well in advance. Hindus in this state can enjoy their holiday, and others can also take a break,” he stated.

Additionally, he mentioned that the present meeting has also concurred on the formation of The Greater Kedah Committee, which will function as an entity tasked with delivering regular reports, either annually or quarterly, detailing the accomplishments of the state government.

The role of The Greater Kedah Committee involves overseeing and organizing information pertaining to the activities of both the government and its subsidiaries. This is done with the purpose of effectively conveying the state’s accomplishments in various sectors to the public.

“Before, data was scattered in different sectors like industry, sports, and education. Now, we’ll analyse all collected data and focus on specific sectors to achieve The Greater Kedah,” he stated.

With the announcement of a special holiday for Thaipusam, devotees in Kedah now have the opportunity to visit Murugan temples to offer prayers, fulfill their vows, and seek the blessings of Lord Muruga. The holiday allows for a dedicated and meaningful observance of Thaipusam, contributing to a sense of community and religious fulfillment among the worshippers.
