Michael Sundram, joined the traffic department in 1962 and was posted at the Seremban police station as a constable.

The 77-year-old was in the police force for 37 years and served in the Negeri Sembilan and Selangor Criminal Investigation Department (CID). Retired sub-inspector, who prioritises the value of courage and determination, is still serving as the chairman of SS15/2 and SS15/3 Rukun Tetangga.

Sundram almost failed to apply for his dream career due to some family issues. But, somehow he managed to complete his schooling at the Melaka Anglo-Chinese School and sought permission from his mother to enrol in a police training course.

After completing an eight-month training program in Singapore, he was integrated into the Anti-Sins, Gambling, and Dark Share Unit. His efforts and sacrifices throughout the years in solving sensational cases made him a well known police investigation officer in Malaysia.

His last posting was at the Shah Alam police headquarters. Being a crime buster, he implicated police operations in a range of high-profile kidnappings and murders, including the murder of beauty queen Jean Perera-Sinnappa in 1979; encounters with prominent murderers Bentong Kali (1993), Sani and Isa (1984); and other high-profile serial killers.

“Once a policeman, always a policeman.”

In 2006, Sundram along with a group of vintage and classic car owners, members of the Malaysia and Singapore Vintage Car Register (MSVCR), gave a special ride experience for more than 200 special children from Subang Jaya to Port Klang. The purpose of organising such an event was to give a unique experience of travelling in vintage cars to the current generation.

With his expertise and wealth of experience, Sundram’s only hope is to continue helping the needy and youngsters to stay away from gangsterism.
