After initially denying that such an event took place, police have admitted that a wedding ceremony was indeed held at a temple in Seri Kembangan during the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) yesterday. Authorities are now tracking all individuals who attended the event.

Police visited the temple after receiving a report from a 41-year-old man who also uploaded a video of the wedding ceremony online. The man lodged a report at 12.04am today after he was informed late last night that his photos had been disseminated on several WhatsApp groups.

His pictures had been viralled after he uploaded the video titled “Majlis Perkahwinan dilangsungkan di Kuil Ibadat Taman Serdang Raya, Seri Kembangan, Selangor” (wedding at a Hindu temple in Taman Serdang Raya, Seri kembangan, Selangor) to a website.

“The video was taken by the man when he was on his way to his workplace. He made the report as he was worried about his safety,” Serdang district police chief Assistant Commissioner Ismadi Borhan said in a statement today.

He said that after receiving the report, a team from the Seri Kembangan police station visited the temple at 7.45am today.

“At first, the management denied that such a function took place at the temple on Monday, but they later admitted that a wedding ceremony was held from 8am to 10am with the presence around 20 to 30 guests.

“Police will track down all suspects under 7(1) of the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases (Measures within the Infected Local Areas) Regulations 2020,” he said.

Ismadi urged all parties to comply with CMCO standard operating procedures to break the chain of Covid-19 infection.

Yesterday, police refuted claims that a wedding ceremony had taken place at a temple in Seri Kembangan, as the caretaker denied that such an event happened.

The statement was released after a one-minute video clip showing several individuals gathering at a temple in Seri Kembangan for a wedding function emerged online.
