AirAsia X (AAX) has been named Best International Airline of the Year for the second consecutive year at the Australian Aviation Awards 2025, reaffirming its reputation as a leader in affordable international travel and underscoring its strong presence in the Australian market.

The award, presented at a gala ceremony in Sydney last Friday, recognized AAX’s excellence in delivering reliable, value-driven air travel while steadily expanding services across key markets.

As part of its continued commitment to Australia, AAX announced it will increase capacity during the December 2025 to January 2026 peak travel season. The airline is adding three extra weekly flights from Kuala Lumpur to both Melbourne and Sydney, bringing each route to 14 weekly services, its highest frequency to date, effectively offering passengers double daily flights to both cities.

This increase not only provides greater convenience for travelers but also strengthens regional connectivity through AAX’s Fly-Thru service, enabling seamless transfer via Kuala Lumpur to more than 130 destinations across Asia, the Middle East, and Central Asia, including Tokyo, Seoul, New Delhi, Beijing, Almaty, Tashkent, and its newest addition, Istanbul.

Three other airlines under the AirAsia brand currently operate direct services to Australia from Darwin, Adelaide, and Perth, further boosting the Group’s network and reinforcing its commitment to delivering low-cost, high-value connectivity across the country.

AirAsia X CEO Benyamin Ismail said the back-to-back win was a reflection of the airline’s strong ties with Australia.“We are incredibly proud to receive this award for the second year running. Australia is where our story began, and it remains one of our most important markets. In the last ten years, we have flown more than 10 million guests between Australia and Malaysia, with the majority of them being Australian travellers, a true reflection of the strong local support for our brand. This recognition further fuels our commitment to grow our footprint in Australia and continue delivering unbeatable value and services”.

Australian Aviation Editor Adam Thorn praised AAX’s performance, saying “AirAsia X continues to set the benchmark for international low-cost medium-haul travel. The judges were once again impressed by the airline’s strong passenger performance, strategic route development, and commitment to innovation and sustainability. This back-to-back recognition underscores AirAsia X’s leadership in the international low-cost sector and its commitment to making travel more accessible for Australians.”

The Australian Aviation Awards celebrate outstanding contributions across the aviation sector through a rigorous judging process that evaluates leadership, innovation, growth, and industry impact.
