In a significant move towards educational equity, the Malaysian government has widened Early Educational Aid (Bantuan Awal Persekolahan) to cover every student in government schools regardless of their household incomes.

Under Budget 2026, the Madani government allocated nearly RM800 million to benefit more than 5.2 million students from Year 1 through Form 5 with a one-off RM150 payment to help cover essential school needs such as uniforms, shoes, books and supplies. This marks a departure from earlier iterations of the programme, which were focused primarily on underprivileged students.

The expansion reflects the government’s broader goal to ensure that every child starts the school session on an equal footing. Education has been highlighted as a cornerstone for national development, a catalyst for creativity and innovation, and a driver of future economic competitiveness.

Schools are expected to facilitate the distribution of the aid, offering an opportunity for closer engagement between teachers, parents and students which is seen as an aspect seen as supporting not just financial relief, but stronger school‑community partnerships.

This policy shift forms part of the Madani Government’s wider commitment to inclusive access to quality education, alongside other Budget 2026 initiatives supporting teacher training, early childhood education and resources for students with special needs.
