Deputy Education Minister Wong Kah Woh announced that this year, 140 Tamil schools with at least 30 pupils will receive smart televisions. This initiative follows last year’s provision of similar devices to 387 schools, funded by the Malaysian Indian Community Transformation Unit.

Additionally, Wong announced that students with Special Education Needs (PPKI) in Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina and Tamil primary schools will start learning both Chinese and Tamil languages. This initiative is part of the new 2027 School Curriculum, which was launched by the Ministry of Education to enhance character education, literacy skills, and numeracy skills.
Wong emphasized the significance of this program, stating that it is crucial for PPKI students who demonstrate good progress to acquire the skills and knowledge needed to master their mother tongue. This will facilitate their transition into mainstream classes.
He made these remarks while speaking to reporters at the SJKT Malaysia Headmasters’ Digital Leadership Symposium Towards MADANI Education Reform 2026, held on Wednesday night.
