The Selangor State government has made a significant decision to include the festivals of minority communities in its annual calendar, with Vishu being one of the prominent celebrations recognised starting next year. This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to promoting cultural diversity and inclusivity among all the various ethnic groups in the state.
Papparaidu Veeraman, the State Executive Councillor for Human Resources and Poverty Eradication, emphasised that this move is designed to empower the spirit of multiracial diversity under the current administration. By incorporating the festivals of smaller communities, the government aims to ensure that every group receives rightful acknowledgement and representation.
The inaugural celebration of Vishu in Selangor took place at Dewan Azalea, located in Seksyen 25, Taman Sri Muda. During the event, Papparaidu underscored his commitment to organising such programs annually, reinforcing the idea that no community should be left behind in the celebration of their cultural heritage. He also stated that the state’s strategic objective is to systematically include minority festivals in the state calendar, which will lead to more coordinated and comprehensive cultural celebrations throughout Selangor.
The ceremony was marked by the presence of the leadership from the Malayalee Association, along with community representatives from across Selangor. Their attendance underscored the significance of this initiative and the collective effort to foster an environment of mutual respect and appreciation.
