The government increased the allocation for new classroom construction to RM900 Million. This allocation is given as the number of growing students enrolment and classroom shortages in Malaysia.
Prime Minister YAB Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the increased funds will allow construction for 6,000 new classrooms nationwide, more than double the earlier allocation under Budget 2026.
Addressing Rising Students Numbers
According to Dato Anwar, the Education Ministry has conducted a reassessment and found that more classrooms needed help urgently, especially for Year 1 students.
Initially in 2026 Budget, the government announced RM400 Million for 2,500 additional classrooms, which involves more than 800 schools. However, after reassessment, the government has agreed to allocate to RM900 Million to build 6,000 classrooms.
This is a important move as it was necessary to avoid last-minute classroom shortages that could disrupt teaching and learning in schools.
Education Remains a Priority
Dato Anwar also said investment in education remains top priority for the government. And education is more than literacy, we must prepare students to master future technologies like AI, while maintaining strong values and identities.
