On June 7, it was approved by the Federal government that AIMST University is to receive the annual grant of RM25 million with an additional RM1 million allocation to ensure pupils from underprivileged backgrounds remain in receipt of education assistance.

The Prime Minister affirmed, “The Madani Government will ensure that the poorest students at this university continue to receive guaranteed assistance. Therefore, I am adding RM1 million specifically for that purpose.” During his speech at the annual government grant presentation event at AIMST University in Sungai Petani, Kedah, he also added that an allocation of RM100 was approved for each secondary and tertiary student to purchase educational materials just last week.

Along with the Prime Minister, also present at the ceremony were the Higher Education Minister, Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir and MIC president, Tan Sri Dr SA Vigneswaran, who also holds the position of AIMST University chancellor and chairman.
In his speech, Anwar who is also the Finance Minister, stated that while investment performance has attained an all-time high in the country’s record, the national unemployment rate is currently at its lowest. However, he also affirmed that despite the numerous global predicaments, the country’s economic advancement continues to go strong, “We are certainly grateful, but as I always say, ‘shouldn’t be lulled into complacency’. See the challenges. One of the major challenges, of course, is education; how to ensure that we continue to excel,” he said.

The Prime Minister asserted that the government regards education as a foundational component that receives the highest allocation annually in the Budget, considering that education plays a rather significant part in collectively uplifting the dignity of people and in shaping a better future.
