Thiyagaraj a/l Sankaranarayanan has been appointed as a member of the Kuala Lumpur City Hall (DBKL) Advisory Board for a two-year term from May 1, 2026, to April 30, 2028.
The appointment, made with the consent of His Majesty Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim, was officially presented by Kuala Lumpur Mayor Datuk Seri TPr Fadlun Mak Ujud. The appointment ceremony was witnessed by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories), Hannah Yeoh. Hannah also congratulated Thiyagaraj on his appointment and expressed confidence that he would carry out his responsibilities with dedication for the benefit of Kuala Lumpur residents.

Thiyagaraj previously served in the Malaysian Prisons Department from 2005 to 2023, including with the Technical Intelligence and Investigation Unit as an Assistant Superintendent of Prisons. He also serves as a Special Officer to the Minister of Education, a role through which he has continued contributing to public service.
As a member of the DBKL Advisory Board, Thiyagaraj will help provide strategic advice and recommendations on matters related to the administration and development of Kuala Lumpur. The board serves as a consultative body that supports DBKL in improving urban governance, public services, community well-being, and policies affecting city residents.
In a statement following his appointment, Thiyagaraj expressed his gratitude to His Majesty the Yang di-Pertuan Agong for consenting to his appointment, as well as to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, Minister of Federal Territories Hannah Yeoh, Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek, and others for their trust and support.
He described the appointment as a great responsibility and pledged to serve with integrity, professionalism, and accountability. Thiyagaraj said he aims to act as a bridge between the people and DBKL by bringing community concerns to the city administration, strengthening urban governance, and helping resolve issues affecting residents of the Federal Territories.

Among his priorities are improving community well-being, enhancing cleanliness and public safety, empowering education, and ensuring Kuala Lumpur’s development is inclusive, sustainable, and aligned with the aspirations of Malaysia MADANI. Drawing on his experience as a Special Officer to the Minister of Education, he also hopes to contribute towards resolving education-related issues, particularly those involving schools in the Federal Territories, while continuing to champion the welfare of all communities regardless of race or religion.
He reaffirmed his commitment to carrying out the mandate to the best of his ability in support of Kuala Lumpur’s continued progress and the well-being of its residents.
