When people think of the Adiyogi statue, the iconic 112-foot sculpture at the Isha Yoga Center in Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, often comes to mind. However, for the first time ever, devotees in Malaysia will have the opportunity to witness an Adiyogi statue closer to home. Sri Maha ShivaAmman Temple in Sungai Buaya, Banting has become the first temple in Malaysia to build an Adiyogi statue, marking a historic milestone for the country’s Hindu community.
To commemorate this significant achievement, the temple will hold a grand Maha Kumbhabhishegam on Sunday, 12 July 2026. The sacred ceremony will also mark the official opening of the much-anticipated Adiyogi statue, welcoming devotees from across Malaysia and neighbouring countries.
A Century-Old Temple Entering a New Chapter
Sri Maha ShivaAmman Temple, which has served devotees for over 100 years, is widely known among locals as the Amman Temple. As part of its latest expansion, the temple is constructing a dedicated Shiva temple entirely from granite stones imported from India.

The construction took approximately six months and was completed by skilled sculptors from India, ensuring that the temple reflects the traditional craftsmanship and spiritual beauty of ancient Indian temple architecture.
Adding to its uniqueness, the temple also features a Kasi Gopuram, inspired by the renowned Kasi Vishwanath Temple in Varanasi, India. Alongside the gopuram stands the newly built Adiyogi statue, inspired by India’s famous Shiva statue. The addition offers Malaysian devotees a chance to experience the spiritual grandeur of these sacred landmarks without having to travel abroad.
Grand Maha Kumbhabhishegam Celebration
In conjunction with the completion of the new Shiva temple and the unveiling of the Adiyogi statue, Sri Maha ShivaAmman Temple will conduct a grand Maha Kumbhabhishegam ceremony. The temple committee has extended an invitation to devotees from Malaysia as well as neighbouring countries to participate in this auspicious celebration.
Programme Schedule:
11 July 2026 – Official opening of the Adiyogi statue
12 July 2026 – Maha Kumbhabhishegam ceremony (9.40 a.m. – 10.10 a.m.)
