Malaysia Healthcare Travel Council (MHTC) Chief Executive Officer Suriaghandi Suppiah has been conferred the Darjah Setia Pangkuan Negeri (D.S.P.N.), which carries the title Dato’, in conjunction with the 85th birthday celebration of the Yang Dipertua Negeri of Penang, Tun Ramli Ngah Talib. The honour recognises his nearly three decades of contributions to nation-building through the healthcare sector, sovereign investment and institutional leadership.
Expressing his gratitude, Dato’ Suriaghandi said the recognition was not a personal achievement but one shared with the institutions and individuals who have supported his journey. He dedicated the honour to Malaysia Healthcare, MHTC’s member hospitals, government partners, and the council’s team, emphasising that he remains committed to continuing the work that has strengthened the nation’s reputation in healthcare.
Leading MHTC For Better
Since assuming the role of MHTC CEO in September 2025, Dato’ Suriaghandi has spearheaded efforts to expand Malaysia’s global healthcare presence. Under his leadership, MHTC launched and implemented the Malaysia Year of Medical Tourism 2026 (MYMT 2026) campaign under the theme “Healing Meets Hospitality”, while broadening promotional activities across ASEAN, the Middle East and South Asia.
He has also strengthened collaborations with financial institutions and government agencies, enhanced governance within MHTC and fostered a data-driven decision-making culture. According to the council, these initiatives have reinforced Malaysia’s reputation as a preferred healthcare destination while raising industry standards.

Strong Background Showcases His Experience in Leadership
Before joining MHTC, Dato’ Suriaghandi held senior leadership positions at Khazanah Nasional, KPJ Healthcare and the Employees Provident Fund (EPF). He also represented Malaysia in hockey at the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games, reflecting a distinguished career spanning both public service and sports.
MHTC said the conferment comes as Malaysia Healthcare continues to strengthen its international presence through MYMT 2026, with the council committed to sustaining the initiative’s momentum in the months ahead and further elevating Malaysia’s position as a leading global medical tourism destination.
