Malaysian women’s singles shuttler K. Letshanaa made a confident start to her campaign at the 2026 BWF World Championships in New Delhi, India, after securing a comfortable first-round victory on Monday.
The world No. 31 defeated Uganda’s Fadilah Shamika Mohamed Rafi 21-11, 21-7 in just 25 minutes at the Indira Gandhi Indoor Stadium. Letshanaa controlled the match from the start and completed the opening hurdle in straight games to book her place in the second round.
However, the 23-year-old will face a much tougher challenge in the next round as she is set to take on China’s third seed Wang Zhi Yi. Wang is among the leading contenders in the women’s singles event, making the upcoming match a major test for the Malaysian shuttler.
The upcoming clash will also give Letshanaa another opportunity to challenge the highly ranked Chinese player. The Malaysian previously faced Wang at the 2026 Badminton Asia Championships, where she lost 17-21, 18-21 after putting up a strong fight.
With her convincing opening victory behind her, Letshanaa will now look to build on that momentum when she meets Wang. A victory would be a significant result for the Malaysian as she aims to make a deeper run at the World Championships.
