This time, our puzzling prowess spearhead a young team to seal a National Record.
Shamini Vinoothan, who is known for her amazing puzzle skills and a record holder who smashed her record setting a new record, now led young puzzle makers to set a new record.
On 15th October, Shamini and her 18 students from Taylor’s International School puzzle club secured a spot in the prestigious Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) for successfully completing the Biggest Deepavali Kolam made from Jigsaw Puzzle with a total of 48,000 pieces.
The mother of one enthusiastically recounted the whole journey of how she and her 18 students achieved this feat.
“In April 2022, I started the puzzle club at Taylor’s International School with 10 students initially. We were just exploring some new puzzles together, sharing tips and knowledge about puzzle solving,” the mother of one explained.
Discovering the passion of the young puzzlers, Shamini decided to approach Puzzle Planet for puzzle sponsoring for her club. They agreed to it but they suggested why not make it on a bigger scale, perhaps making the biggest Kolam puzzle in conjunction with the upcoming Deepavali festival.
Shamini mentioned that it was a very doubtful moment to pitch completing these 48k pieces of the puzzle but seeing how passionate and determined they are, gave her the light that they will definitely make it.
The entire process and planning were done by Puzzle Planet Sdn Bhd, Shamini, and 18 brilliant puzzle makers.
While waiting for the material to arrive, which took a month, the teacher used this opportunity to teach her students to puzzle-making skills and knowledge.
“After receiving the materials, we put it up together, design the kolam and paint it. The kids used sharpie pens to colour up the kolam design. This process took us 1 week.” she describes.
On 14th October, they went to the Centre Court Pavilion Bukit Jalil to reassemble the Kolam puzzle into 1 perfect picture. They took around 1 and a half hours to complete the massive jigsaw puzzle.
Shamini gave a special shoutout to Puzzle Planet for coordinating and sponsoring the project as well as Taylor’s International School for providing the time and place to work on it.
“The kids are the reason why this massive jigsaw puzzle can be completed,” Shamini emphasized.
Shamini who adores puzzle solving expressed her desire to meet more puzzle enthusiasts and also wanted to inspire more people especially, youngsters.
“As my first move to inspire more people to delve into the world of puzzling, these 18 kids and their first achievement prove that my aim prevails,” she proudly told Varnam MY.
Furthermore, the record holder told “I was wondering why can’t adults still work on the puzzle as they can make incredible achievements, for example, this kind of feat,” she highlighted noting that childhood puzzling memories could be used to create amazing things.
Prior to this record, on 5th February 2022, Shamini earned a National Record for having the Most Number of Jigsaw Puzzles Completed By An Individual, with a total of 51,300 pieces breaking her own record that she set for the same category last year on March 12th, with a total of 18,000 puzzle pieces.
