As Deepavali nears, eager and excited Hindu shoppers have flocked to bazaars and stores to gather their much-needed festival necessities and luxuries. Indian-concentrated business areas like Brickfields, Klang, and Lebuh Ampang have been swarmed by patrons, despite the continuous heavy rains that Malaysia has experienced these past few weeks.
Over the years, Deepavali has indeed become an incredibly commercialised celebration that has cultured Hindus in Malaysia to buy festive items like decorations, clothing, prayer items, and food products to signify the festival of lights. So in keeping with this tradition, Hindus this year as well, have once again flocked to the many bazaars that have been organised to get the best deals on their desired products. A great example of this is the Agenda Suria Communication Sdn Bhd organised, 21st Deepavali Carnival 2023 in Bukit Jalil, which has seen 100,000 visitors so far.
Shoppers have expressed that even though the heavy rains have posed a problem for them, the need to get last-minute shopping done has been a great motivation to strive against the difficulty that it presents. The festival season is one that requires many Hindus who celebrate it to prepare elaborate sweets, cookies, and delicacies, and some who do not have the option to prepare them themselves opt to buy the store-made ones at bazaars. Moreover, many who have not completed buying accessories for their outfits also chose to brave the weather and purchase their much-needed items.
