The Managing Director of Mydin, has said that Malaysia’s food supply is still under control because of the careful planning by retailers and the continued strength of the country’s agricultural sectors.
Datuk Dr Ameer Ali Mydin, said that farming activities, like planting and harvesting remain the same, helping to ensure a steady supply of food products for the local market.
The agricultural resources availability, especially fertilizers, plays an important role in maintaining stability. With enough supplies for farmers, there are currently no signs of disruptions which could affect the food production or lead to shortage.
Other than locally produced goods, retailers have also taken steps to supply imported products. Many businesses have used forward-planning strategies by purchasing stock earlier and preparing for possible disruption in global supply chains. This helps to make sure that essential imported items remain available for people.
According to Mydin, the stable supply situation is not only for food products alone. Important stuff like clothes are also available in the market. Consumers are advised to shop responsibly and avoid panic buying, which can create unnecessary pressure on the supply chain.
Mydin also supports the government’s allocation for the Rahmah Cash Aid (STR) and Rahmah Basic Aid (SARA) programme under Budget 2026. They believe these initiatives will help with the financial burden on households while also supporting local businesses.
By seeing the consumer needs, Mydin is expanding its operations this year by opening 20 new outlets in a smaller community store look, which allows customers to access a wide range of essential goods. This shows Mydin’s continued efforts to support local communities while adapting to changing shopping habits.
