On June 14, 2026, over 5,000 Bharatanatyam dancers gathered in Colombo, Sri Lanka, marking a significant achievement. This landmark occasion led them to secure a Guinness World Record for the largest Bharatanatyam dance lesson.
Sangamam Global Academy from India, in collaboration with Sangamizh Liya Holidays from Sri Lanka, organized this grand event, which took place at Galle Face Green in Colombo. The gathering united dancers from Sri Lanka, India, and numerous other nations.

This extravagant event was designed to highlight the enduring tradition of Bharatanatyam while promoting cultural connections across nations. The participants dazzled in colorful traditional Bharatanatyam costumes, performing synchronized routines under the direction of their instructors. Following the performance, the Guinness World Records adjudication process was finalized, and the official world record citation was presented.

The Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Santosh Jha, accepted the Guinness World Records certificate on behalf of the dancers and organizers. In his address to the audience, High Commissioner Jha praised the performers and organizers for attaining this global recognition and emphasized the importance of culture in enhancing the connections between India and Sri Lanka.

The event was graced by Minister of Fisheries, Aquatic and Ocean Resources of Sri Lanka, Ramalingam Chandrasekar, along with Deputy Ministers Sundarlingam Pradeep and Mahinda Jayasinghe, as it attracted a large crowd and featured a celebratory atmosphere honoring the shared cultural heritage of the region.
