In the days leading up to Karuppu’s (2026) release, speculations of Arya’s cameo role were rife among fans. Those rumours, it turns out, were grounded in truth. Now, while promoting his upcoming film, the Sarpatta Parambarai (2021), Raja Rani (2014), and Boss Engira Baskaran (2010) actor has finally let the cat out of the bag.
At a promotional event for Arya’s upcoming Tamil-Malayalam film, Ananthan Kaadu, he confirmed that he had indeed shot for a small role in Suriya’s latest blockbuster, Karuppu (2026). The role offered was said to be of an “experimental nature”, and the decision to scrap it from the final cut of the film was taken only shortly before the release.
In responding to a question posed by the media, Arya noted, “I was informed by the director RJ Balaji that my cameo was being removed from the film. I had shot for it, and he told me that the cameo was not sitting well with the rest of the film, and he reassured me that we would work again later. My role was a bit experimental in nature, and Balaji said that it was not fitting into the full scope of the film.” He also added that he had no issues with the role being removed, affirming that he was fine as long as it made the final film better.
Arya’s statement further echoes what the editor of the film had previously shared. The editor disclosed that apart from Arya’s cameo appearance, scenes featuring actor Kaali Venkat, references to Vijay’s The GOAT, and Sivakarthikeyan’s Doctor also did not make it to the final film. Actor Swasika had similarly confirmed that some of her scenes were removed.
Despite the cuts, Karuppu (2026) has emerged as the highest-grossing Tamil film of the year thus far and marked Suriya’s first film to have reportedly amassed over Rs 300 crores worldwide.
As for Arya, the actor was last seen in Manu Anand’s Mr X (2026) and is now gearing up for the release of Anantha Kaadu, an action thriller by Jiyen Krishnakumar.
