At the National Workers Day 2026 (Hari Pekerja 2026) celebration held at Unifi Arena, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim revealed major announcements to strengthen worker welfare and shape Malaysia’s economic future.
Over 150,000 workers attended the event under the “MADANI Workers, the Nation’s Pride”, the event was not only a celebration, but a clear sign of Malaysia’s next journey.
Key Announcements for Workers:
- Post Maternity Leave Allowance (EPCB): Extra financial support to help mothers return to work with better flexibility and ease.
- PERKESO Protection Abroad: Social protection will now extend to Malaysians working overseas including cross-border workers
- Economic Resilience Package (PACE)- RM710 Million: A major fund aimed to protect jobs, support employers, and strengthening industries.
The 4 Main Cores of PACE
- Social Protection: Expanding safety nets to ensure workers are protected in uncertain times.
- Training & Job Placement: Helping workers upgrade skills and connect with better job opportunities
- Empowerment of Gig Workers: Improving benefits and recognition for those in the gig economy.
- Development of Young Talents & PMKS: Supporting youth and small businesses to grow in a competitive economy.
Where Malaysia Stands Now
The Prime Minister also highlighted the country’s current progress:
- Economy growth at 5.2% despite global competition
- Low unemployment rare at 2.9%
- Increased participation of women in the workforce
- Improved worker benefits, including 98 days maternity leave and 7 days paternity leave
- Wider social protection coverage for millions
- Ongoing labour law reforms and digital services
- A 2030 vision focused on higher salaries and a sustainable economy
- Strong push for inclusive TVET and future talent development
While these achievements shows strong progress, the message was clear, there is still more to be done to ensure every Malaysian benefit.
