Education Minister Fadhlina Assures Vernacular Schools Will Not Be Closed

Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek has extended the ministry’s school visits beyond national schools, urging equal attention for both Chinese and Tamil schools as part of inclusive education system.

Speaking at the Kalvi Yuttham 2026 programme, which took place at SJKT Castlefield, she has said that all students regardless of background, deserve equal recognition.

“Chinese children are our children. Indian children are our children. Malay children are our children,” she said, reinforcing the ministry’s commitment to education for all.

Fadhlina has reminded the officials that Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Cina (SJKC) and Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan Tamil (SJKT) are just as much a part of the national schools.

Speaking on the ongoing sentiments from people questioning on the vernacular education, Fadhlina has given a clear assurance that these schools will not be shut down. She highlighted the both SJKC and SJKT are protected under the Education Act, reinforcing their place in Malaysia’s education system.

The minister also announced that she will meet with SJKT Headmasters Association twice a year to address ongoing issues and improve the communication. She noted the key concern that such school maintenance and relocation must be resolved.

The Kalvi Yuttham programme, is a educational and motivation initiative for Tamil school students, which brought educators and leaders together. Including Selangor Department director Wan Nor Ashikin Abd Kassim, and Sri Murugan Centre director Surain Kanda.

Moving Forward

Fadhlina’s message highlights the ministry’s push towards unity and inclusivity within Malaysia’s education system.
