Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Chang Lih Kang says that drone technology plays a important role in getting students to venture in studies related to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). The minister had said this at the launch of STEM Room at SJKT Ladang Katoyang, Tanjong Malim, Perak.
Drones make learning about science and technology really fun and interactive for students. This makes STEM subjects more interesting and easier to understand of students.

Encouraging Interest in Science and Technology
Chang said newly launched drone room is a result of cooperation between industry players, government agencies, educational institutions and the local community.
The launched drone room is a result of people from different industries, government agencies, schools, and the local community working together. Datuk Chang Lih Kang thinks this is a way to help students develop skills in STEM, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics) and STREAM (Science, Technology, Reading/Writing, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics).

He believes that drone technology is not about flying drones. It also teaches students skills like coding, artificial intelligence (AI), engineering and data analysis. Chang said that drones allow students to see how technology is used in real-life situations. These include applications in smart agriculture, search, and rescue operations, disaster management and air transportation.
Early exposure to learning drone technology is important as industry is growing and is expected to create more job opportunities in the future.
Exploring Future Energy Sources
In a separate development, Chang spoke about Malaysia’s energy future. While knowing the importance of solar energy in addressing global energy challenges, he said solar power cannot become the country’s main source of electricity because it depends on weather conditions and sunlight availability.

He explained that Malaysia still relies on natural gas and coal as it’s main source of electricity. Looking ahead, the government will continue to explore alternative energy sources like hydropower, geothermal energy and nuclear power to make sure a stable and reliable energy supply.
Chang’s remarks highlight the government’s efforts to strengthen STEM education while preparing future generation with the skills needed in an increasingly technology-focused world.
