The federal government made sure no vernacular schools will be closed under the current administration, reaffirming their commitment to protect and support both SJKC and SJKT vernacular schools in Malaysia.
Deputy Education Minister YB Wong Kah Woh said vernacular schools will remain as important part of Malaysia’s education system, and will continue to receive support from government. He said that under MADANI Government, no school, national, SJKC or SJKT will be shut down even though there are challenges such as enrollment, land ownership or infrastructure issues.
Speaking at a ceremony in Penang, YB Wong said Education Minister YB Fadhlina Sidek has always emphasized that vernacular schools will be part of Malaysia’s educational landscape and will continue to receive support and attention from government.

As part of this efforts, YB Wong announced that maintenance funds for Tamil schools nationwide has been increased to RM50 million this year, which benefits about 527 SJKTs across the country. The Ministry of Education is currently finalizing the distribution of the allocation for each school based on the needs and student population.
He announced 22 government aided SJKTs in Penang will receive furniture worth RM1.156 Million through MITRA.
YB Wong said the governments continued support shows the commitment to ensure all schools, regardless of stream, will be given opportunity to grow and provide quality education for students. He added that national schools, Chinese vernacular schools, and Tamil vernacular schools remain under ministry’s focus to strengthen education across the country.
This assurance gives confidence to school communities and parents who has been concerned about the future of vernacular schools in Malaysia.
