The Federal Government has approved construction for 27 new schools in Johor bahru. This approval is under the 2023 to 2025 budgets, with a allocation of more than RM2.3 billion.
According to the Ministry of Education (MOE) the new schools will have 830 classrooms and benefit more than 29,000 students. The project is to improve access to quality education while helping to reduce overcrowding in schools, especially in major urban areas.
More Investments in School Facilities
Since 2023, MOE has expanded preschool education in Johor, with 84 new preschool classes brought under the mainstream and integrated streams. Between 2023 and 2025, RM444.8 million has been allocated for 5,728 upgrading and maintenance projects at educational institutions.
The project is to improvement to toilets, canteens, surau, science laboratories, science rooms and other school facilities. Government-Aided Religious Schools also receive RM60.6 million.
Another RM 11.7 million was allocated to upgrade teachers room at 369 educational institutions in Johor.
Financial and Learning Support for Students
The government also provided more than RM88.7 million for the one-off RM150 Early Schooling Aid, benefiting 591, 722 students from Year One to Form Six. Meanwhile, the Supplementary Food Programme (RMT) received a allocation of RM35.1 million, benefiting 48,015 students. Overall, MOE provides 18 types of assistance for students in Johor, especially those from families in need.
The MADANI Book Voucher initiative announced recently benefited 241,61 students in Johor, involving a total allocation of RM24.1 million.
The ministry added 40 boarding schools in Johor have been equipped with CCTV cameras to improve safety monitoring. MOE also shared Johor’s academic progress, with SPM average grade performing better than the national average, alongside strong results in the STPM and STAM examinations.
Many projects and programmes are part of the efforts to improve school facilities, student support and access to quality education in Johor Bahru.
