It has been several days since the Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) was announced, and we encountered a seemingly slight improvement in the number of cases today. According to the Ministry of Health (MoH), there are 865 active cases currently in the country.

However, Malaysia reached the highest-ever number of new cases yesterday, (18th October) with 871 new cases, beating the previous record of 869 cases the day before yesterday.

As reported by Bernama, Alliance Bank Malaysia Bhd shut its branch in Tawau, Sabah, after two employees tested positive for Covid-19. The affected workers are seeking medical care at the assigned government hospital.

“The bank promptly closed its Tawau branch and e-Lobby for deep cleaning and disinfection on Oct 16 , 2020 and the rest of the staff also underwent a Covid-19 screening after assurance that one of its security guards had tested positive. It is also confirmed that the branch would stay closed until further notice,” said the bank in a statement.

A total of 2,967 prisoners in Pengkalan Chepa and Machang prison in Kelantan were screened for Covid-19.

State Health Director Datuk Dr Zaini Hussin said that these checks had been carried out since March of this year. However, all prisoners have tested negative and Dr. Zaini stated that steps will be taken from time to time to ensure that all prisoners are free from fatal coronavirus.

Health Director-General Tan Sri Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah said that health authorities would raise screening not only in prisons but also in remand, lock-up and detention facilities, as 25 percent of the country’s Covid-19 cases are in prison in Peninsular Malaysia.

Three schools in Perak; Sekolah Kebangsaan Tanah Kebun in Parit Buntar, Sekolah Kebangsaan Jaya and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan Aminuddin Baki, Chemor both in Ipoh are closed for seven days from today after several students were tested positive for Covid-19.

A resident from H20 Residences in Ara Damansara has tested positive for Covid-19. It was reported that the resident was in close contact with another patient under investigation who was staying in the same unit.

The effected block of the condominium which is Block C will undergo intensive sanitisation said the management. They are also advised to practice social distancing and not leave their unit unless necessary.

Do remember to stay home as much as you can, practice social distancing and sanitise your hands at all times. Should you experience any symptoms whatsoever, please seek immediate medical attention. To break the cycle of Covid-19, we have to be more proactive in adhering to the SOPs required. Stay safe, stay healthy!
