Malaysia’s top women’s doubles duo, Pearly Tan and M. Thinaah, saw their Denmark Open dream come to an end after falling to Japan’s newly formed pair, Arisa Igarashi and Chiharu Shida, in straight sets — 8-21, 9-21 — in just 35 minutes at Arena Fyn.
It was the first-ever meeting between the world No. 2 Malaysians and the Japanese duo, who only recently began their partnership. The score clearly reflected Japan’s dominance, as Pearly-Thinaah struggled to find their rhythm against the aggressive and well-coordinated Japanese pair.
Earlier in the tournament, Pearly and Thinaah had made a strong start, cruising through their opening round with a convincing 21-13, 21-17 victory over Indonesia’s Febi Setianingrum and Rachel Allessya Rose, also in 35 minutes.
Just days after lifting the Arctic Open title, and following their runner-up finish at the World Championships in August, Pearly-Thinaah’s form continues to impress. Despite today’s loss, the dynamic duo have reached six finals this season, capturing two hard-fought titles and reaffirming their place among the world’s best.
